This initiative aims to create a comprehensive roadmap for integrating informal collectors of secondary raw materials into the formal waste management system in Serbia, with a particular focus on the Roma community. Through in-depth research, consultations, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement, the project will define categories of informal collectors and propose potential business models. The goal is to map out waste types, locations, and methods of collection while promoting the formation of recycling cooperatives equipped with the necessary machinery. These cooperatives will focus on treating collected materials in an environmentally safe manner. The ultimate objective is to provide the Ministry of Environmental Protection with a viable and inclusive roadmap for integrating informal collectors into the formal system.
