The “A circular future for informal plastic collectors” initiative, led by BIO IDEA for sustainable development Belgrade, aims to integrate informal plastic waste collectors—especially Roma women—into Serbia’s formal waste management system through circular economy and social entrepreneurship. The project provides business skills training, introduces innovative recycling methods (such as producing brooms from PET bottles and soap from used cooking oil), and develops new tools for efficient plastic processing. By empowering collectors and promoting circular innovations, the initiative seeks to improve livelihoods, increase recycling rates, reduce CO2 emissions, and foster social inclusion for vulnerable groups.
