The project “LALU RE-PAK – Roma woman leads circular transition in the street food sector” aims to demonstrate how circular economy principles can be applied in the street food sector through a women-led, inclusive, and zero-waste business model. The project is implemented by a Roma woman entrepreneur from Belgrade and focuses on eliminating single-use plastic packaging by introducing reusable eco-alternatives produced by Roma women. Food waste is reduced through the upcycling of leftover bread into value-added products such as crackers, seasoned chips, and breadcrumbs. The business operates through markets, public events, and outreach to Roma neighborhoods using a small electric vehicle, while customers are encouraged to bring their own containers through a discount scheme. In parallel, the project raises awareness on recycling and waste reduction through direct community engagement and a digital Zero Waste campaign. The project is expected to empower at least five women, reduce plastic waste by up to 70%, and establish a scalable waste-to-resource model in the street food sector.
