Innovative initiative tackles the environmental challenges of phosphoric acid production, which generates large amounts of phosphogypsum waste and CO₂ emissions. The Faculty of Technology in Leskovac, working with Elixir Prahovo, proposes a circular economy process that converts these by-products into valuable materials: CaCO₃ (used in construction) and (NH₄)₂SO₄ (a mineral fertilizer). The project involves laboratory testing to optimize mineral carbonation of phosphogypsum under moderate conditions, aiming for a zero-waste production model. Ultimately, the results will provide a technical solution for sustainable plant design, process monitoring, and production control, bridging academia and industry to reduce environmental impact.
