The “Economy in Ecology” initiative by Roma Humanitarian Center–Bujanovac aims to expand a network for selective collection and recycling of non-hazardous waste (plastic, aluminum cans, glass, textiles) in Bujanovac and six rural settlements, engaging informal collectors from Roma, Serb, and Albanian communities. The project uses a multilingual digital platform, provides training and protective equipment, and incentivizes collectors with solar cookers in exchange for recyclables. It also promotes textile recycling and second-hand sales, with a focus on social inclusion, climate impact reduction, and replicable models for sustainable waste management in southern Serbia.
