The project “MEA Revolution” aims to develop a sustainable model for cosmetics production by extracting active compounds from berry fruit juice residues using green Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES). DES solvents represent a new class of non-toxic, biodegradable, and cost-effective solvents with exceptional capabilities for the selective extraction of polyphenols, flavonoids, and other valuable compounds, offering up to a 60% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional organic solvents. Due to their simplicity, low-cost components, and ease of preparation under low-tech conditions, DES technology is ideally suited for use in small-scale production facilities. In this way, the project directly supports the circular economy, empowers women in rural areas through the application of technologies tailored to micro and small enterprises, and contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of the cosmetics industry.
