The project, titled Potential use of insects in the development of Serbian agriculture, focuses on promoting sustainable agricultural practices by integrating circular economy principles. Initiated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Institute for Biological Research Siniša Stanković,” the project's primary goal is to utilize Tenebrio molitor (mealworm) larvae as an alternative protein source, reducing reliance on conventional feed and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. The project includes research and development activities, seminars, workshops, and collaboration with a business entity, Belinda animals doo, to educate farmers and establish insect farms in Serbia. The initiative aligns with Serbia's circular economy agenda and targets ecological sustainability by reducing landfill waste and producing organic fertilizers from insect frass.
